Name: Micha Thomas, co-founder of The Made In America Project Location: Laurel Canyon-Los Angeles, CA Years lived in: less than 1 year; rent Micha Thomas is the co-founder of the Made In America Project, a grass roots operation to bring love and attention to small domestic brands and companies. Her home in Laurel Canyon is a perfect mix of Southern California and Santa Fe style and the ultimate Bohemian retreat .

Name: Paul Location: Long Beach, CA My wife and I have been living in lofts since 2005, and bought this loft in 2007. as an artist, it was always really important to me to have my work space in the home, so lofts have been ideal. Our home is in the Temple Lofts, which is a converted Masonic Temple from 1926. our unit is one of the largest in the building at 2322sqft and features original brick work throughout the house.

Name: Calvin and Kelly Location: Atlanta, GA My better half, Kelly and I took on the task of building our dream home on an empty lot in an up and coming neighborhood in Old Fourth Ward, Atlanta. We conveniently had close friends that were amazing architects and were willing to go on the journey with us on this creation. We had a few significant hardships along the way, some typical to most building experiences – Builder that took our money, bad sub-contractors, etc. You name it.

Name: Susan and Herb Albin, and their two dogs, Owen & Henry Location: Richmond Highlands; Shoreline, Washington Size: 2,300 square feet Years lived in: 21 years; Owned After twenty-one years and a variety of renovations under one roof, Susan and Herb have turned their “empty nest” into a home full of life, color and light.

Name: Derrick Johnson Location: Downtown, Los Angeles, California How did I end up in Downtown Los Angeles? It was all by chance while meeting a friend for lunch. We saw a sign that said loft tours and this loft was the first and last loft on that tour. I instantly fell in love. Its openness, natural light and historical details are the reasons why, five years later, I’m still proud to call Downtown Los Angeles my home.

Name: Ildiko Location: Budapest, Hungary We have a small (37m2 = 398 square foot) one-room apartment in Budapest downtown that we’ve transformed into an Airbnb rental. We had really little money to do it so my husband Andras and I did as much as we could by ourselves. Andras designed and built the cup holder coffee table. And I painted the paintings (except the one above the television, that is by Sara Osgyanyi).

Name: Allison + Ben Yarrow Location: Crown Heights; Brooklyn, New York Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: Almost four. We’re sad to leave, but looking to rent to someone special in September. Allison and Ben call a beautifully restored building from the 1890s home. Their view of Midtown Manhattan from their living room is just one of many beautiful vistas.

Name: Deidre Location: Riverfront in the Berkshires This is my newly built home, transformed from a dilapidated, very sad house to a modified Whidbey Tumbleweed “tiny house” set at the river on a very quiet street in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. It includes two bedrooms and a wonderful contemporary wood stove. Everything is crisp and clean; I used a warm Benjamin Moore Barren Plain gray paint throughout.

Name: Viv Location: South East London, UK We live in a 2 bed apartment in South East London, in a converted mews development (used to be a dairy mews in 1880’s). We love it for the interesting layout, tall ceilings in the bedrooms and quirky features like a weird column in the middle of the lounge! We painted everything Farrow and Ball (Cornforth white in the lounge, Downpipe in the hallway, Plummet in the master bedroom and Theresa’s Green in the baby nursery).

Name: Chris and Amber Earl Location: North Hollywood, CA Size: 1,190 square feet Years lived in: 2 years Amber met Chris at a mutual friend’s BBQ and she admits it took her forever to notice him but once she did she was done for. Chris grew up in Papua New Guinea and is a talented woodworker and chef and Amber is a fashion rep who grew up in SoCal.

Name: Aileen Allen Location: Edmonds, Washington My husband and I rent a 1200 square foot apartment in Edmonds, Washington — a little beach town about half an hour north of Seattle. Our decorating budget is pretty small, so our home is mostly filled with DIY projects that we’ve done and pieces from thrift stores and antique malls. My favorite room is our living room…it’s the one that gets the most light, and the room that we’ve done the most to.
