If you’re an artsy couple, you’d probably be psyched to incorporate some of your love of painting and illustration into your big day. But even if you’re not, these creative details might be just the thing for you, too. After all, a little color and texture never hurt anybody. Make each piece a little work of art. I’ve always been a huge fan of pink and green together, and the current trend towards more somber, desaturated colors has put a fresh new spin on this classic combo. Hunter green and dusty pink are beautiful on their own, of course, but they’re even better together. This kitchen from Little Greene pairs a pink that’s just a wee bit bubble gummy with a dark green (and an oak worktop) that balances it out nicely.

So, I’ve got this client. He’s a single guy in finance with a BIG budget, and he really needs to upgrade his large SoHo apartment so that it doesn’t look like a dorm room anymore. Coral can be defined as a reddish yellow, pinkish yellow or a light yellowish red. It’s similar in shade to salmon and tangerine, with the former having a stronger pink undertone and the latter, a stronger orange. When Frank Lloyd Wright began practicing architecture at the turn of the 20th century, American suburbs were a pastiche of borrowed European architectural styles. But Wright had a vision; he wanted to create a style that was uniquely American, inspired by the landscape and free of associations with the old world. He called this unique style “Usonian”, a play on “USA.

An amazing thing happened in June 2008 — an IKEA opened two miles from my home. Oh, and my son was born. Before this a trip to IKEA meant descending into the bowels of Port Authority in Manhattan, boarding a standing room only shuttle bus to a New Jersey IKEA and then deciding whether to spend more money than you spent on purchases to arrange home delivery of your items or to limit yourself to what you could wrangle home on the bus and subway. Ellen DeGeneres has been busy. The comedian, TV host, and most recently designer has been working on several new home collections under her ED by Ellen brand, including a line of rugs, pillows, and throws for Loloi. The collection was first announced in October 2016, and debuted at the Las Vegas and Atlanta markets in January. The rugs come in seven styles and multiple colorways each.

With the resurgence of ’80s style in the past few years, pastels have been having quite a moment at home. And while light colors will always have a place in our palettes, Pinterest is noticing that some bolder hues have been gaining in popularity recently. In the company’s 2018 Home Report released this week, bolder, deeper shades were gaining traction.

When you ask parents what not to buy for a nursery, a changing table rises to the top of the list. “Official” changing tables don’t repurpose well into non-baby furniture so many parents choose alternatives to traditional changing tables, primarily dressers or desks that are at a comfortable height and deep enough to accommodate a changing pad.

Imagine a beautiful retreat that celebrates light, color and nature, all in one. Enter Glass Cabin, a creation handmade by stained glass artist Neile Cooper. New Jersey based artist Neile Cooper had the idea for a little cabin in the woods where she could show off her stained glass craft. The result is Glass Cabin, a small structure in her backyard constructed almost entirely of reclaimed window frames and lumber decorated with her stunning artwork.

There’s no shortage of stylish tiny homes out there, but many still have some assembly required. This project—aptly titled Mobile Home—comes delivered, already fully assembled. Created by designer Ruzanna Andressa Oganesya, Mobile Home is built on a moving platform that can fit on a freight liner truck bed, and is therefore easily transported to any place you’d want to put a modern, off the grid tiny house.

I’ve always loved white marble countertops and I last wrote about them five years ago (43 comments BTW). They are bright, elegant, add character and are wonderful to cook on, particularly if you’re baking. They can also be one of the cheapest stone solutions if you choose Carrara marble, making them a great choice if you’re on an IKEA kitchen installation budget. However, many people are afraid of them due to the perception that they are high maintenance.

It’s Design Week in Milan and SMEG and Dolce & Gabbana are back with even more appliances turned art. Sometimes you want to paint your walls a nice color, but sometimes you’re looking for COLOR. These 10 hues from Valspar will kick things up a few dozen notches, even if they’re confined to one little wall. But why limit yourself? Be bold! I never knew until this moment that I needed a glamorously green dining room, preferably including mint green chairs, faux fur, and a pineapple (above). Picking a paint color and not sure where to start? If you have a soothing, but not sleepy pale tone in mind, here are some terrific choices all pulled from the Glidden palette and, best of all, featured in real homes.
